Integration Grants Application '25 : AirGap

Name of the Project: AirGap

Problem Statement and Proposed Solution:

The Conflux ecosystem faces barriers to user adoption due to limited access to secure and user-friendly wallets that cater to Conflux’s eSpace chain. Existing solutions often require expensive hardware wallets or lack comprehensive features like seamless dApp interaction, staking support, and offline transaction signing. This creates friction for users, limits token utility, and hinders broader participation in the ecosystem, especially in regions with restricted access to advanced tools. .

Proposed Solution

AirGap is a self-custody open-source cold wallet solution that transforms any spare smartphone into an airgapped cold wallet, providing maximum security without the need for dedicated hardware wallets. It consists of two applications:

AirGap Vault (offline) – Stores private keys completely offline and signs transactions securely via QR codes, preventing any exposure to online threats.

AirGap Wallet (online) – Manages balances, initiates transactions, and interacts with dApps, ensuring a seamless user experience.

But why AirGap?

True Randomness for Seed Generation – Unlike traditional wallets that rely on a device’s RNG (which can be manipulated), AirGap supports dice roll and coin flip entropy to generate seed phrases, ensuring verifiable, human-generated randomness for maximum security.

Totally Airgapped Security – AirGap Vault operates without Bluetooth, USB cables, Wi-Fi, or NFC, making it 100% offline, eliminating any potential attack vector from connected devices.

Advanced Security features - AirGap includes BIP-39 passphrase protection, BIP-85 deterministic seed derivation, and social recovery, allowing users to add extra layers of security and flexibility to their wallets.

What do we expect?
We expect to see at least 1500 Conflux wallets being created or managed on AirGap Wallet within the first year after the store launch. The AirGap transaction backend is used to inject blockchain operations, which allows us to count the addresses from which funds are sent to other wallets. We do not have the ability to link these addresses to any user identity, and we do not publish any addresses. The sum of all addresses is only used for analytics purposes. Due to privacy issues, we will not be able to disclose any addresses, but we will happily share and explain the source and methodology applied in a private call.

This projection is based on our past integrations and is subject to variation, dependent on

  1. Joint marketing efforts
  2. Size of the Conflux user base
  3. The activity and needs of this user base.

We know that joint marketing campaigns can significantly increase the number of new users. If the Conflux Foundation is open to this, we are confident that the actual numbers can be much higher.

We believe that offering users secure self custody solutions will not only retain users in an ecosystem, but will also attact new users which define secure self custody as a precondition to interact with an ecosystem. AirGap has a solid and loyal user base and we believe that it’s a valuable user base to gain additional exposure in.

Cost - $10,000

Phase 3: Post-integration maintenance and support

We will provide at least two years of post-integration maintenance and support to ensure seamless functionality and address any technical issues that may arise. This includes all future announcements or feature updates from Conflux.

Thank you for sharing your initial proposal @a.kumar ! I have a few suggestions that could help strengthen it further:

It is essential for your proposal to focus on the project’s growth trajectory by emphasizing strategies that attract new users and increase transaction volume, as this aligns with the interests of the Conflux ecosystem and its community. While development work is important, the Conflux Foundation prioritizes grant funding for marketing incentives, user acquisition initiatives, and ecosystem expansion efforts. Highlighting these growth initiatives will make your proposal more comprehensive and impactful.

We encourage proposals that aim to achieve a mainnet launch as the initial milestone. To strengthen your application, it would be beneficial to have a thorough audit completed and successful testnet feedback and implementations already integrated.

Key Points to Revise in Your Proposal:

Total Budget Revision: The proposed total budget is currently too high. Please revise it to a more reasonable level, with a stronger focus on marketing initiatives and user acquisition efforts.

Detailed Performance and Social KPIs: Include measurable KPIs for each phase and sub-milestone to outline expected outcomes.

Examples include:

  • Performance Metrics: Total Value Locked (TVL), transaction volumes, unique wallet addresses, partner integrations, or web traffic, etc.
  • User Growth Metrics: Social media engagement, community growth, and participation in activities like AMAs or user campaigns, etc.

Growth Milestones with Budget Breakdown: Provide a detailed breakdown of milestones with specific budgets linked to their KPIs. Milestones should serve as conditions for fund releases, as the Foundation only releases funds upon milestone and KPI completion.

We appreciate your effort in preparing this proposal and look forward to seeing a revised version that reflects these points, ensuring alignment with Conflux’s focus on growth and ecosystem development.

Best.
Ashish

Hey @cj_hux, just following up. Have you checked out the revised version of our proposal?

Thank you for incorporating the earlier feedback. I appreciate the improvements made so far.

At this stage, however, the budget allocation remains heavily weighted toward product development rather than user incentives, engagement, and acquisition. Given the importance of driving adoption and traction, I strongly recommend revising the budget to place greater emphasis on user growth initiatives. A well-balanced approach will not only enhance adoption but also improve the sustainability and impact of your project within the ecosystem.

Additionally, could you elaborate on the security aspects of your product? Security is a critical factor for user trust and adoption, so it would be helpful to understand the measures in place to protect user funds and interactions.

Lastly, It would be great to hear more about your vault’s unique value proposition—what differentiates it from other solutions in the space? Why would a user choose your vault over existing alternatives? Highlighting these factors will strengthen your proposal and make a more compelling case for its growth potential.

Looking forward to your updates!

Hey there @cj_hux. I have updated the Proposal as suggested by you. We understand that the proposal was mostly on the integration aspect and not the marketing aspect. Now, we have added some User acquisition campaigns in the proposal, which we have already tried and tested. Also, we have changed the product description which makes it clear why AirGap is better than other cold wallets highlighting the security aspects of our solution.

We hope to see Conflux on AirGap soon.
